Job Description

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Performing Arts Shop Assistant supports the daily operations of the performing arts at HCC through job duties that include: inventory management and purchasing, work space organization, event support and basic clothing alterations. This role is ideal for someone with a desire to work in supporting theater activities as needed, organizational skills and who is eager to contribute to both the creative and logistical aspects of a performing arts area.

Please note, this is a part-time position for 20 hours per week.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • The Performing Arts Assistant reports directly and is responsible to the Theater Technician.
  • The Performing Arts Assistant coordinates closely with the Director of the English & Humanities Division, Art/Theater Assistant, HU Division Office Associate, and faculty from Theater and Dance departments.
  • This position requires working in conjunction with assigned student workers.

DUTIES:

  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory; pull items from inventory as needed to support performance needs. Complete purchasing process as needed with the guidance of show designer and Theater Technician.
  • Assist with periodic inventory audits and restocking of consumable items.
  • Facilitate external rentals, including check-out/check-in procedures.
  • Provide backstage support during tech rehearsals and performances as needed.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness, organization, and safety of dressing rooms, storage spaces and related areas.
  • Support general shop tasks and special projects as assigned; fabric maintenance including laundry, steaming, and sanitizing of theater show items.
  • Serve as additional technical support for events as needed.
  • Assist with basic clothing maintenance. 


EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma, Associates Degree is preferred, theater experience preferred.
